Cleaning the Plates

Before we close the shields, it is always a good idea to clean all the surfaces that have been exposed for a long time or have come in contact with moisture or grease. To do this, you simply wipe down any surfaces with a paper towel dipped in ethanol.

The aim is to prevent any contamination (like fingerprints) from being cooled down, as they can have negative effects on the gold finish of the plates.

Further, moisture inside the OVC will increase the pumping time required to obtain a reasonable pressure. Any moisture remaining on the surfaces after beginning the cooldown will increase the cold mass and increase the specific heat of fridge.
